Yo, it's Bonobo!

It's not every day you get to be a part of electronic music history, but it sure felt like it last Wednesday night at The Orange Peel. Spring is here, and the happy people of Asheville flocked to one of the best shows of the season. Chrome Sparks, a young DJ from Pittsburgh opened up for ambient electronic legend Bonobo. The show was sold out and the crowd was ready to get down.

Chrome sparks walked out on stage and his fans showed him lots of love. He immediately got down to business and the whole crowd erupted into an upbeat dance party. His stage presence was super friendly and casual as he masterfully manipulated all of his music gear. In the middle of his amazing set he played his smash hit “Marijuana” and the floor got crazy. Everyone was dancing and laughing and the mood in the room was nothing short of electric. After a few newer songs, it was time to say goodnight to Chrome Sparks. He thanked Asheville for all of its hospitality and headed for the merch table to meet fans and take photos.

Up next was the main course of the night's buffet of incredible music: Bonobo. While sometimes he only plays a DJ set, The Orange Peel was treated to a stage full of instruments and performers. The dance floor was packed as Bonobo, aka Simon Green, walked out and greeted everyone with warm smiles. They quickly hyped up the crowd with their slick brand of ambient goodness. The giant screens behind them played perfectly trippy visuals to go along with each stunning song and the audience was totally loving it.

After a crazy and seriously crowd pleasing set, it was time to bid farewell to Bonobo. We all knew that the blissful sounds could only last so long. The crowd was sad to see him go, but at least we all had a beautiful night to go enjoy in the springtime weather. This was a show that will hopefully set the tone for the rest of spring: totally freaking awesome.
