Whitney sets sail to The Orange Peel

This Friday night at The Orange Peel, Chicago based band Whitney will bring their unique brand of country and folk influenced indie-rock. Touring on their debut album from summer of last year Light Upon the Lake, the show will mark the first time the band has played Asheville. Opening up the night's festivities will be Nashville's very own Sun Seeker.

It all started with a break up. Following the 2014 disbanding of Smith Westerns, members Max Kakacek and Julien Ehrlich were set adrift into the world. They got a shared apartment in Chicago and started jamming together in what would become the definitive sound of Whitney. Before they knew it, they had a full album out on record label Secretly Canadian and Pitchfork was giving them high praise.

Whitney's charm comes from their ability to create a sound that transcends time. Your favorite worn-out tape from a past cross-country road trip is the best way to describe their warm and sunny style of songwriting. Nashville, Tennessee's Sun Seeker open up the show and will bring their classically smooth sounds to the Peel. The Third Man Records signees show serious promise and should not be overlooked.
