Get ready to Rock with Aesop

Get ready to Rock with Aesop image

Start your week off right by going to see Aesop Rock (with Rob Sonic and DJ Zone) at The Orange Peel on Monday night. The Portland, Oregon rapper, real name Ian Bavitz, hasn't been to town for a hot minute and is bouncing back after releasing a new album last year. Opening the show is the equally skilled wordsmith Homeboy Sandman. Get ready to vibe out.

Ian Bavitz started rapping in the early 1990s and is truly the definition of an underground artist. Self-financing his debut album Music for Earthworms in 1997 was when things got kicked into gear. The release sold over 300 copies all thanks to his grassroots promotion on the growing world wide web. By the time he graduated college a year later, he was already working on his next musical offering.

Critical acclaim in the underground hip hop world allowed Bavitz to snag a record deal, and the rest is history. He would go on to be featured alongside other big names, produce albums, and even get a deal to create music for Nike+iPod. Last year, he released his seventh studio album The Impossible Kid. If you're planing on attending the show, make sure to bring a thesaurus and/or dictionary to try and keep up with his exquisitely eloquent flow.
