Shutterings + Jaeb + Armadilla

Shutterings formed in California in 2015, releasing several albums as a solo project before quickly evolving into a full band. Having relocated to Asheville in late 2017 after a series of solo and full-band tours alike throughout the West Coast.

Shutterings has transformed into a more dynamic, technically-adept arrangement, pairing slower grooves with surging interludes and improvisational segues. Most recently, Shutterings released a live album from a show at The Mothlight on May 15, 2018, and aspires to have a full length album with the latest lineup by Spring 2019. Despite describing themselves as just another indie rock band, JAEB's musical depth goes much further than such a label. With lyrics longing for unrequited love, coping with mortality, and exploring the darkness within self harm, JAEB conveys a sincere sentimentality both on and off the stage. Their music is driven by dreamy guitar hooks and singalong choruses. They released their first full album, Something New, in June 2018. Although still a relatively young band, their drive and commitment to honest songwriting will help keep them a part of Asheville's music scene for long to come. Originally a two-piece acoustic project headed by Galen Stickles and Gabe Smiley, Asheville NC's Armadilla was fully formed in October 2015 with the addition of brothers and Hagen and Harrison Johnston. The deep, emotional songwriting of Stickles (Keys, Vocals) and Smiley (Guitar, Bass, Vocals) was brought fully to life with the additions of Hagen (Drums) and Harrison (Bass, Guitar, Vocals). Drawing influence from folk, funk, blues and R&B, Armadilla can not be confined to the indie-rock label. The band has gained a local reputation for intriguing original tunes with soaring harmonies as well as their takes on songs by their musical influences, including Modest Mouse, The National, and Death Cab for Cutie. Since their inception, Armadilla’s local following has snowballed into a mighty family of supporters. Their self-titled debut EP, recorded by local engineer/musician Ted Marks and released in May 2017, is available on bandcamp and Spotify. In the Summer of 2017 the band added Chris Wallen (guitar) to complete the current 5-piece Armadilla lineup.
