Rock for Roe Benefit Show! w/ Big Sound Harbor

As we commemorate the 46th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States of America, reproductive rights, health and justice advocates recognize that we are facing an uncertain future for safe and legal abortion access. Reproductive rights and health advocates will join NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina for a “Rock for Roe” benefit show at The Mothlight. This year’s anniversary comes after another year of renewed attacks on abortion access, emboldened by the confirmation of the White House’s second anti-abortion conservative justice to the Supreme Court. The balance of the court has shifted to one that looks poised to roll back completely the rights and freedoms so many of us fought for. “While the recent fight to protect and expand abortion access and reproductive rights has been at the state level, the non-stop attacks at the federal level threaten to overtake those gains, and have emboldened the anti-abortion opposition in state legislatures across the country. In 2019, we anticipate numerous unconstitutional and dangerous attacks from anti-abortion lawmakers once the North Carolina General Assembly comes back in January,” said Tara Romano, Executive Director of NARAL Pro-Choice North Carolina. “Safe and legal abortion access is already out of reach for far too many North Carolinians, and we know the goal of some lawmakers and special interest groups is to make access even more difficult, if not ban abortion outright. These attacks on safe abortion and contraception do not reduce the need for abortion; rather, they push people seeking abortion into dangerous situations.” It will be more important than ever for North Carolina residents to bring their voices to their local, state and national representatives to preserve reproductive freedom for all, and – in addition to great live music – this event will include information about how, when and why to get involved. Suggested donation of $10 at the door, and tickets for raffle prizes will also be available for purchase.
