Orvis Down the Hatch Film Festival

Down The Hatch #orvisdth
Down the Hatch is back in Asheville for 2018—and it is everything Asheville: local live music (The Clydes & The Jakob’s Ferry Stragglers), fly-fishing (enjoy our fly-fishing competition called the “Guide Olympics”), raising money for one of our favorite streams and hiking trails (Cantrell Creek Trail), spending time with our families, and catching up with old friends and meeting new ones—all while eating Asheville’s favorite foods at one of Asheville’s favorite breweries, Highland Brewing!

After a day of entertainment, the crowd migrates inside to the taproom for a world-class fly-fishing film festival where all ticket proceeds go to Land O’ Sky, a chapter of Trout Unlimited. Film Fest tickets include an entry into a crazy good raffle... and when we say raffle, we don’t mean just tee shirts and ball caps (though there will be those too)...WE COME TO PLAY! Prizes include sweet new Orvis equipment, awesome gear from our Down the Hatch Sponsors and the grand prize—a wicked cool trip to an undisclosed world-class destination.

Why Asheville?
Wondering why Orvis chose Asheville? Down the Hatch is also the finale event for the 31st Annual Orvis Guides Rendezvous (OGR), a two-day conference with seminars, presentations, and workshops designed to help professional fly-fishing guides network and expand their knowledge. Close to 500 professional fly-fishing guides from all over the world are expected to attend.

“Kicking Plastic”
We are excited to continue our focus, in partnership with Klean Kanteen in making this another “Kick Plastic” event. We truly believe the elimination of disposable water bottles in the outdoor community is paramount for addressing the ever-growing issue of climate change and pollution. Klean Kanteen is providing 500 pint glasses to the first 500 through the door! Klean Kanteen is also providing water stations.

Where do the proceeds go?
We are in it to raise money and awareness about Asheville’s local stream projects! Highland Brewery is donating $.50 per beer pour to Land O’Sky and ticket proceeds from the DTH Film Fest will be donated to Land O’ Sky Trout Unlimited. Land o’ Sky has earmarked a portion to help fund the Cantrell Creek Trail Relocation Project and remaining donations will be put towards other stream projects they are working on in 2018.
