Hannah Kaminer: "Heavy Magnolias" Album Release Show

Hannah Kaminer is a folk/Americana artist based in Asheville, NC. Raised in small towns in western North Carolina, her songwriting ranges from echoes of Appalachian and bluegrass traditions towards classic country and even rock. Her cloudless voice and silvery melodies are a haunting pairing with gutsy, gut-wrenching lyrics about loss, love, and home.

Kaminer initially ventured into songwriting as a homesick college student in Texas, longing for the Blue Ridge Mountains. After a stint as a medieval literature teacher, she moved home to North Carolina, where she was drawn into a group of songwriting friends. Her first performance of her original work on stage was in Asheville’s citywide Brown Bag Songwriting Competition.

Kaminer won crowd favorite and the grand prize – the opportunity to record at Echo Mountain Studios in Asheville, NC. Her debut, Acre by Acre, was released in 2015.

Over the course of the next two years, Kaminer set out to create a fuller sound, experimenting with her band, Heartbreak Highlight Reel. Returning to the studio as a frontwoman and co-producer, Kaminer enlisted Grammy-winning engineer Julian Dreyer for her sophomore project. With the support of a successful Kickstarter campaign, along with a North Carolina Regional Artist Project Grant, Kaminer recorded Heavy Magnolias in the fall of 2017. Doss Church is a singer/songwriter living in Asheville, NC who’s earliest musical memories are of listening to his parent’s vinyl records- the Beatles’ “Rubber Soul” and Stevie Wonder's “Songs In The Key of Life”- when he was barely old enough to read the album covers. Those influences are still very much alive in Doss's music today, along with Paul Simon, Elliott Smith, and Neil Finn, and more. Whether playing solo or with his band, Doss uses his Gibson J-45 acoustic and exceptional vocals to translate energy and emotion into a percussive style that will draw you in and make you want to move.
